Ethel

Ethel is an approximately 15 year old bay mare – breed unknown.
Her extended belly initially had us concerned she might be bred, but (thankfully) her pregnancy test came back negative.
Protein deficiency can also cause a bloated belly. In consult with our vet, we will give her time on the improved diet (and of course worm her) and see if it resolves.
May 2022 Update

Ethel is showing visible signs of improved health, but so far the belly remains. We’ll give her a little more time while working on her diet and supplements (as long as she feels good), then do more blood testing if needed.
She has a sweet, gentle, quiet nature.
