The medicinal value of pine sap can be seen by observing nature. The next time you are walking in the forest, take time to notice the fallen pine trees. In some places the trees are rapidly decaying, crumbling and returning to the earth. On the same downed log, look for patches with a golden-yellow color. These are areas of the wood saturated with sap. Notice how this part of the log is well preserved and intact years after the rest has rotted away. The sap wood is able to resist the bacterial composting that occurs elsewhere in the log.  We are essentially borrowing the immune system of the tree to use topically on our skin.
